A Rebuke to de Blasio’s Op-Ed on ‘Amazon’

Earlier tonight, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio penned a New York Times op-ed pretty much blaming Amazon for canceling their move to Long Island City. We have seen blame on Amazon go around this city since the decision was made on Thursday, and that is quite a telling sign, isn’t it?

It’s a sign that our leaders aren’t capable of taking responsibility for letting Amazon slip through the hands of a city in need of an economic boost. I’ll admit , I was not totally in favor of this move, or the way it was presented to us, but for New York leaders to SPIT in the eye of Amazon is stupid!

Especially Mayor Bill de Blasio! He spits on business owners daily, it feels like! He publicly said on NY1 about socialism, ‘The fact that the word is now been liberated as part of the discussion is very, very healthy,”

That ‘health’ now includes de Blasio taxing business owners who have empty storefronts. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2019/01/09/de-blasio-i-will-lobby-for-vacancy-tax-on-landlords-of-empty-storefronts/amp/ ) It includes threats to seize properties from landlords. It includes even de Blasio calling out for a millionaire’s tax! If you want to tax the rich and the small business owners at the same time, which is evident by his administration actually opposing rent control, then why are you so upset about Amazon leaving ?

In The NY Times op-ed, you called NYC the capitalist symbol of the world, yet you lash out at Amazon, the most capitalist company for leaving. Is there any surprise? No!

And, Mayor Bill, you are the last person that should have a say on a company ditching New York, when you’ve slowly but surely ditched your own businesses with your taxes and minimum wage support!
